Mike took some time off over the extended bank holiday period, but some intrepid souls needed their fix of Linux and general geekery.
Tony, Jon, Arran and Les met for coffee on two occasions.
April 23rd Barista Coffee Shop, Birley St, Blackpool.
Les talked about his recent trip to Gadget Show Live
He said that he enjoyed the day, but felt that the event focussed to much on large tech items, rather than smaller niche items.
We had a look at Ubuntu 11.04 on Les’ Samsung netbook.
We were impressed by how it looks, but we still feel that it lacks speed on low spec hardware.
Les reverted to Ubuntu 10.04, he cloned the drive before 😉
We talked about Ubuntu in general, is Unity the new KDE 4.0? Could it dent the image and reliability of the once flagship Linux distribution?
April 30th Toast Coffee Shop, Corporation St, Blackpool.
Change of location, same Linux chat!
This week Les brought his new toy
And we recorded our conversations, but unfortunately there was too much background noise for them to be used as podcasts.
This week Tony, told us about his new Open University course, T155 Linux: An Introduction
Tony, was not very happy with the level of the course, he feels that it is too easy for him.
Tony feels that on completion of this course, a user with no knowledge of Linux would be unable to complete the CompTia Linux+ certification
We enjoyed our coffee, then went to Cash Converters to scoff at their prices!
Les mentioned that he spoke to a member of the OU team at Gadget Show Live, and there will be a higher level course offered in the next few months.
